Health Canada Helmet Recall Notice

Health Canada has issued a notice with respect to a recall on certain models of RBK and CCM helmets. It has been found that the chin strap of the recalled helmets may disengage while being used by consumers. If the chin strap disengages, the helmet can fall off, posing a potential safety hazard.

Note that Health Canada has not received reports of incidents or incidents to Canadians related to the use of these helmets to this point.

Office Administrator Job Opportunity

The Conception Bay Regional (CBR) Minor Hockey Association is accepting applications for the position of Office Administrator. This position will be for approximately 20 hours/week and is located at the CBS Stadium in Kelligrews.

Candidates should posses a Diploma in Office Administration and have 2 years experience working in a busy office environment. Applicants should have good organizational skills, excellent computer skills and be able to work well independently. Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

CBRMHA 2008/09 Registration

The Conception Bay Regional Minor Hockey Association will be hold registration for the 2008/09 season and for Pre-season Sweat Camps at the Conception Bay South Stadium during the following dates and times:

Complete registration forms accompanied by payment will also be accepted by mail postmarked no later than August 27, 2008.

House League registration will occur during ALL registration times above. All Star Try-out registration and fee ($65) will ONLY be accepted during the August registration dates. NOTE: No late All Star registration times will be provided after August 27, 2008.

Cash, cheque, debit, VISA/Mastercard will be accepted at registration and either payment in full or by post-dated cheques/pre-authorized credit will be required.

Certificate of Conduct Letter (UPDATED)

To All Potential CBRMHA Coaches

This year all coaches will require a certificate of conduct from your residential policing authority. The main office of the RNC has a letter on file from CBRMHA that has to be signed by the coach stating that you are or will be a volunteer for the 2008-2009 hockey season. When you visit the main RNC office please asked them for a Certificate of Conduct application and reference that there is a letter from CBRMHA on file that you need to get a copy of to sign.

The CBRMHA letter needs to accompany your application. The RNC will notifiy CBRMHA directly via mail regarding the issue of a Certificate of Conduct letter for you.

Until CBRMHA has received confirmation back from the RNC that they have issue a clearance letter you will not be permitted to be on the ice with the players. If at the time you apply for a coaching position with CBRMHA you do not have your clearance letter your application will be considered pending the receipt of the letter.

Avalon Celtics Coaches Seminar

To All CBR Coaches

The Avalon Minor Hockey Association and their major sponsor, Hickman Motors, will be hosting the Avalon Celtics Hickman Motors Coaches Seminar. This great event will take place from August 22 - 24 at Memorial University in St. John's and the Capital Hyundai Arena.

This seminar is open to coaches, parents and all that are interested in attending. They have informed us that they have a great line up of speakers confirmed for the event which I am sure you will find very entertaining and informative no matter what your involvement in hockey may be.

Early bird registration will take place for this event up until Friday August 8th. The cost to register before this date will be $75. If you wish to register past this date the cost will be $110. Your registration package will include a binded copy of all presentations, top quality seminar polo shirt and Saturday evening meal.

I have attached an unofficial schedule for the seminar. The schedule and speaker times are subject to change.

CBRMHA will cover the cost of this event for 10 of our coaches. These coaches will be selected from the applications we receive with the intent to send a balanced group across all our divisions. If you are interested in going please send an email to Gary Styles at garystyles@hotmail.com with your name, contact info (day time and evening phone numbers) and the division that you coached last year. To be considered and to have the cost of the conference covered by CBRMHA you must send this email to Gary no later than August 3, 2008.

CBRMHA Hockey Camps (UPDATED)

CBRMHA will be running a number of hockey camps, starting September 8, prior to the start of the hockey season. The divisions for these camps will include:

The cost of these camps will be 80 dollars for 8 hours of ice time. The registration for the camps will take place during each of the August Minor Hockey registration times (August 13, 20 and 27). Each camp will have a maximum of 30 skaters and 4 goaltenders.

Held at St. Bon’s Arena hosted by Avalon Minor This program is designed for girls ages 4 and up who are new to Minor Hockey. This is a one- hour a week-learn to skate- program where minimal equipment is required. Individual support is given to every participant until they become comfortable on the ice. Under 15 Male: Kurt Etchegary, Trevor Forward, Chris Pond, Ryan Power, Andrew Ryan, Brandon Tilley, and Matthew Whittle Under 16 Male: Luke Conway and Andrew Gillard

As well John Baldwin (Bantam 'A' coach this past season) is an Asst. Coach with the Under 15 Male program, and Chris Lake (Peewee 'A' coach this past season) is an Asst. Coach with the Under 16 Male program. _________________________________________________________________________

CBRMHA Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The AGM was held on June 25, 2008. A number of issues were dicussed including the registration process, DMHL, High School Hockey and Ice Time to name a few.  Click here to get a copy of the 2007-2008 AGM Report.

The board was also given approval to advertize for a paid administrative assistant postion. More information on this position, including duties and hours of work will be coming shortly.

An ellection of Officers was also held and though a nomination process Marg Noftle was elected our new President. Gary Styles now moves to Past President. We also would like to welcome Kim Sutton to the board as the 2nd Vice President. All previous members remained on the board with some in new roles. The complete list of board members and their email contact information can be found at the bottom of this page.

 As well, the new board will appoint members for the following positions:

      ·         Fundraising Coordinator; and

·         Tri-Com Representative

These two positions are normally an elected position but in the event that the position is vacant before the term is up, as is the case with these positions, the board must appoint a person to fill this role to the end of the term.

CONGRATULATIONS Justin Boland

Based on Justin’s great results during the regional Skills Challenge, he has been invited to compete in the 2008 Provincial Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador Skills Challenge at the Brother O’Hehir Arena in St. John’s on Saturday, March 1, 2008. The competition will be held between 11:30am-12:30 PM. That's right, IHL now has its own website. All changes, updates, team standings and stats will be posted on this site. All game results will be automatically sent to the Telegram each week....so it is important to send your results to Genny Spearing after each game. Genny can also post team goals and assists if coaches want this. Just contact her via email.
